Using cedar is a mid-range way to have a rot resistant material that is absolutely beautiful initially & can be preserved by using a very good quality UV inhibited varnish,but needs to be re-coated to preserve the new look.Cedar can be left to age without treating if you do not mind a grey look.Cedar does not splinter & check like the pressure treated & has a natural oil preservative within & was once the premium material along with redwood used for decking that gives a natural wood look.
